Cultivating Six Essential Competencies of High Performing Boards

Research on nonprofit boards by Jackson and Holland led them to define six dimensions of board competency that describe essential elements of effective governance. High performing boards exhibit behaviors that are: contextual, educational, interpersonal, analytical, political, and strategic. In this session we’ll learn about each of these behaviors and concrete activities your board might adopt to improve its performance.

Leadership Transitions

Leadership transitions occur for any number of reasons, planned and unplanned.  This time can be a powerful opportunity to strengthen the organization if a thoughtful plan is in place. Executive transitions are transformational. Poorly managed, they often bring on a crisis, leading to decreased effectiveness and sometimes organizational failure.  This session will prepare executive directors and board members to lead their organizations through a process of planning for leadership transitions.
