ASSISTANCE LEAGUE OF CLARK COUNTY
Member since 2009
is an all-volunteer organization with the motto, “Helping today for a better tomorrow.” The almost-fifty members serve the community through four programs that benefit women and children.
The Assault Survivor Kits ® program provides the emergency rooms of three hospitals—Legacy Salmon Creek, Southwest Washington Medical Center and St. John’s, Longview—with clothing and toiletries for women and children who are victims of assault as many such victims arrive in their nightclothes or with torn and damaged clothing, or their clothing is kept by law enforcement officers as evidence. A member serves as liaison with each hospital ensures that each has a stock of kits for distribution.
My Life Story Books are given to children in foster care. These beautiful handmade memory albums give children a place to keep family history and letters, photos and records as they move from place to place. The group makes and donates thirty books per month to Children’s Protective Services to distribute.
Operation School Bell® provides new clothing—including coats and shoes—and school supplies to children in poverty at several elementary schools throughout Clark County. School employees identify specific needs to an Assistance League liaison who supplies the requested items. The program has recently been expanded to include children between the ages of 10 and 18 who are suddenly removed from their homes by Children’s Protective Services and often have only what they are wearing at the time.
The Community Outreach Program partners with Innovative Services Northwest to provide volunteers in the children’s orthotics clinics and the community preschool, literacy supplies for children and scholarships for preschool attendees in the summer, when government assistance is not available.
Funding for all the programs comes from two annual fundraisers—the Sleigh Bell Benefit lunch held in early December and a Spring Garden Party. All funds raised remain in the community and are dispersed through the programs.

CLARK COUNTY SAFE KIDS
Member since 2008
Clark County Safe Kids focuses on preventing unintentional injuries especially to children. We conduct car seat clinics and bicycle helmet fittings. Through coalition members we get injury prevention education to all members of the community.
Our primary goal is to educate parents and caregivers about unintentional injuries and how to avoid them. Motor vehicle crashes are still the number one killer of children under the ages of 14. Every child needs to be properly restrained in a vehicle all the time.
Properly fitted helmets can and do reduce traumatic brain injury to all ages as long as they are worn correctly. Please contact us for information on how you can support .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

NORTHWEST ASSOCIATION FOR BLIND ATHLETES
Member since 2009
(NWABA) is a 501(c)(3) Charitable Organization. It was formed on May 5, 2007 by a group of visually impaired athletes because there was a lack of sports opportunities in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana.
The mission of NWABA is to provide opportunities for blind and visually impaired persons to become engaged in physical activity and sports. We will provide scholarships and host events to build confidence and physical fitness. The confidence gained from sports will inspire athletes to follow their dreams in life and in sports.
NWABA provides opportunities to athletes in Powerlifting, Goalball, Judo, Swimming, Track and Field, Tandem Cycling, Skiing, and Wrestling. Our dream is to make a difference in the lives of every visually impaired individual in the Northwest and give them the opportunity to participate in sports and physical activity. Sports have a life-changing impact on an athlete’s life. When athletes realize that they can excel in sports, it builds the confidence to excel in school or work.
There are hundreds of potential athletes across the Northwest who aren’t involved in sports because of their vision; most of them aren’t able to participate in baseball, football, basketball or even their physical education class. Instead, they sit at home or on the bench and never have the opportunity to participate or be on a “team.” Our goal is to reach as many blind persons as possible and enrich their life through athletics.

NW SAFE TEAM

NSSAFETEAM is a group of nurses involved in doing sexual assault exams, collecting forensic evidence from victims of rape. We do this in a hospital setting.
We formed the nonprofit to better serve our community and include the victims of domestic violence. We look to be active in educating our community about the process of forensic evidence collection. We want to provide safe and competent forensic evidence collection in assault cases in accordance with the IAFN Guidelines.
Rape and domestic violence are under-reported crimes due to the perceived stigma attached to those crimes and a lack of understanding of the services that are available to the victims. Better forensic evidence should lead to a higher conviction rate of the perpetrators. Contact .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) for more information.

SCHOOL OF PIANO TECHNOLOGY FOR THE BLIND
Member since 2008
If you are looking to make a difference in the lives of others, we offer the
following story of challenge turned to a reality.
Tim, a recent student, was born blind. Accepting his blindness as a challenge but not a limitation, Tim
graduated from community college, but still could not find employment. He
was faced with the same situation confronting over 60% of the blind and
visually impaired members of our community - he was an educated, capable and
talented person unable to find work. Tim then completed our rigorous
two-year training program. After graduating he secured a position as a piano
technician with Buddy Gray Music in Tuscaloosa, AL. He has a profession and
is now living on his own - independently self-sufficient.
Since we are self-funded, this life-changing story is made possible by strong donor
support. Check the web site

The Southwest Washington Chapter of the American Red Cross has
served residents of Clark County and Southwest Washington for over
90 years.
The mission of the Red Cross is help people prevent, prepare for and
respond to emergencies.
* Last year, each of the over 27,000 units of donated blood had the potential to save three lives!
* On an average of once every three days, our volunteer Disaster Assistance Teams respond to apartment and house fires, providing
emergency lodging, food and clothing to victims who have lost everything.
All emergency response assistance provided by the Red Cross is free. The Red Cross is not a government agency and relies solely on
the generosity of the American public to fulfill its mission. Donations made to Southwest Washington American Cross stay in this
community for the benefit of local citizens. Out of every dollar donated $.93 goes directly into services provided.
You can help your local Red Cross by donating blood, becoming a volunteer, taking a class to get prepared, or making a financial
donation . Call the Vancouver office 360-693-5821 located at 3114 E. Fourth Plain Blvd. or visit our

STEP IT UP, INC
Member since 2008
Step It Up, Inc. connects high school students with individualized, career-relevant on-the job-training, career advising, and living-wage employment opportunities that assist them in becoming self-sufficient, confident, and productive adults.
Mission: Our mission is to inspire the belief that all students deserve the chance to prove their abilities and follow their career dreams. We accomplish our mission by supporting high school students, especially low-income and minority students, to achieve their education and career goals through participation in three youth workforce development programs. These programs follow research-based practices and include the Pre-internship Program, the Internship Program, and the Career Achievement Program
Each of these programs was developed to specifically address the challenges students face today in achieving their education and career goals. These challenges are frequently overwhelming and goals can appear to be unattainable, especially for low-income and minority students who lack access to career networks, encouraging advisors, and living-wage employment opportunities. Nationally, 88% of high school students who drop out have passing grades but are bored with school, see no reason to get a diploma, and need money (Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation report 2006). http://www.stepitupinc.org

UNITED WAY OF THE COLUMBIA WILLAMETTE
Member since 2009
United Way has been providing services for the four-county Portland/Vancouver metro area for almost a century. Our mission: Helping people, changing lives, making every contribution count. We know that no one person or organization can solve our community’s tough issues alone. That’s why we bring people, resources, and ideas together to find solutions and create long-lasting changes that prevent problems from happening in the first place. We do this by focusing on the basics we all need: education, income, and health. We all win when kids succeed in school, families are financial stable and people have good health.
We use a volunteer-driven grant funding process to identify partners who are committed to collaboration and we invest in programs that achieve measurable results. United Way is currently funding 37 programs and working with over 100 partner agencies as well as funding key initatives including: Project Access Now (PANOW), Hands-on-Greater-Portland, 211info, Born Learning, Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Program, and the Community Relief Fund (CRF). Over the past three years, United Way has invested $2.4 million in grant and initiative funding to help Clark County residents. We currently fund programs in Clark County through: ARC of Clark County, Coalition of Community Health Clinics, Community Housing Resource Center, Irvington Covenant Community Development Corporation, Second Step Housing, the Native American rehabilitation Association, Native American Youth and Family Center, as well as through United Way initiatives. Thanks to Cornerstone Partners who cover our overhead expenses, 100% of your donation will be invested locally. Join us in being part of the solution. Together, united, we can inspire hope and create opportunities for a brighter future. That’s what it means to LIVE UNITED. Give, Advocate, Volunteer. http://www.unitedway-pdx.org
